Throughput Comparison of Turbo-Coded HARQ in OFDM, MC-CDMA and DS-CDMA with Frequency-Domain Equalization

چکیده
OFDM, MC-CDMA and DS-CDMA are being researched vigorously as the prospective signaling technique for the next generation mobile communications systems, which will be characterized by the broadband packet technology. With packet transmissions, hybrid ARQ (HARQ) will be inevitable for error control. HARQ with rate compatible punctured turbo (RCPT) codes is one of the promising techniques. Data rate equivalent to the OFDM system can be attained with MC-CDMA and DSCDMA by assigning all the available codes to the same user resulting in what is commonly referred to as multicode MC-CDMA and multicode DS-CDMA. A rake receiver is used for receiving the DS-CDMA signals. However, recently minimum mean square error frequency-domain equalization (MMSE-FDE) has been proposed for the reception of DS-CDMA signals. In this paper, we introduce RCPT HARQ to DS-CDMA with MMSE-FDE and compare its throughput performance with OFDM, multicode MC-CDMA and multicode DS-CDMA with rake combining. MMSE weight for packet combining is introduced and the soft value generation for turbo coding in MC-CDMA and DS-CDMA with MMSE-FDE is presented. The throughput is theoretically evaluated for the uncoded case. For RCPT-HARQ, the comparison is done by computer simulations. It is found that the throughput of HARQ using DS-CDMA with MMSE-FDE is the same as or better than using MC-CDMA. However, with higher level modulation, type I HARQ using OFDM is better than using either MC-CDMA or DS-CDMA; for type II HARQ without redundancy in the first transmission, however, MC-CDMA and DS-CDMA gives a higher throughput. key words: OFDM, multicode MC-CDMA, multicode DS-CDMA, MMSE frequency-domain equalization, RCPT HARQ

Abstract MC-CDMA, a multicarrier modulation scheme based on code division multiple access (CDMA) is the most likely candidate for the next generation of mobile radio communications. Rate compatible punctured turbo coded hybrid ARQ (RCPT HARQ) has been found to give improved throughput performance in a DS-CDMA system. In this paper, we apply RCPT HARQ to an MC-CDMA system and evaluate by compute...
متن کاملTurbo-coded Hybrid ARQ for DS-CDMA with Frequency-domain Equalization
Abstract In this paper hybrid ARQ is applied to DS-CDMA with minimum mean square error frequency-domain equalization (MMSE-FDE). The throughput of turbo-coded HARQ is evaluated in addition to the packet error rate (PER). DS-CDMA with MMSE-FDE can provide much better PER performance than with rake combining in a frequency-selective fading channel and the performance improves with the increase in...
متن کاملPerformance Comparison of Turbo Coded Mc-cdma and Ds-cdma with Higher Level Modulation
Multi-carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA), direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) are the major contenders for wireless signaling technique. For higher data rates, the use of higher level data modulation is desirable. In MC-CDMA [1], the data-modulated symbol to be transmitted is spread over a number of subcarrie...
متن کاملAnalysis of the optimum spreading factor for MC-CDMA with RCPT-coded HARQ
In MC-CDMA, each user’s data-modulated symbol to be transmitted is spread over a number of subcarriers using an orthogonal spreading sequence defined in the frequency-domain. As the spreading factor SF becomes larger, the transmission performance improves due to increasing frequency diversity effect; however, the data rate per user decreases. The SF=1 system corresponds to an OFDM system. In an...
